Zozo Championship
Event Overview
The Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club, which first opened its doors in 1965, is a small course with forgiving tree-lined fairways. Two greens per hole are a Japanese practise that arose from a requirement to maintain diverse grasses for changeable weather many years before developments in agrostology. Individual greens, on the other hand, are small, necessitating precision short-irons and approach shots for additional birdie possibilities. Lines off the tee appear to be rather claustrophobic in this tree-lined site. There are six doglegs to offer variation, but the rough this week appears to be rather light so could driving distance be more important than accuracy. Bentgrass is used on the putting surfaces which will be a delight for many of the worlds best ball strikers , they are however tiny in size and well-defended by bunkers. Expect to see another low scoring birdie feast . Player will need to be dialled in T2G and on approach play specifically. I expect this to be another week where the scores better 20 under par.
There are five Par-3 holes and three Par-5 holes on the course. The par 4’s on the course also vary massively. Some par 5’s measure up over 500 yards and other under 400 yards. A fun course for the players to get stuck into this week.
Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Hideki Matsuyama, and Sungjae Im lead the field. All four of those top-ranked players competed in the CJ Cup in Las Vegas on Sunday. Morikawa and Rickie Fowler tied for third place after Fowler led by 54 hole, before our man Rory surged clear on the back 9.
Let’s see what we have for this week key skill sets and picks.

5 Key Skill Sets Required
SG T2G- A new course for many players this week and those that have seen it previously will be for 4 rounds only in 2019. I expect that this course will demand solid T2G performance, and to win these low scoring affairs, quite simply you need to be playing well T2G. I will be looking for players in good event form with their overall T2G game.
Driving Accuracy – Looking at the data we can see that Driving Accurately is of huge importance, this weeks track is short by PGA Tour standards and the defence of the course come in the form of dog legs left and right. The Par 5’s will favour those with a natural draw on there second shots. Hitting the right part of the fairways this week will open up those pins and that’s the type of player I’m looking to find.
SG Approach - Expect a low scoring affair this week, I want players who have a proven track record of hitting it close with their iron shots. The data shows that these low scoring events in the Far East put a premium on approach play and this is expected to be the case this week at theNarashino Country Club.
Par 3 Scoring - With 5 of them to look forward to and 3 of those on the front nine it’s clear Par 3 scoring will play a key part in determining the outcome of this event. Iron play will be a key factor in determining the winner of this event come Sunday evening.
SG putting - We are on the pristine Bentgrass putting surface this week, and there are players who simply love this putting surface. I will be looking at players with wins to,there name on this surface some of the best ball strikers in the world come alive of this grass and that brings a few players into the mix who would be overlooked or other weeks.
