The course this week could play fast and firm if what we read is true in the lead up to the event. Many players who have visited in recent weeks have released snippets of information which seem to confirm the above. What could this mean for this years masters. Will shorter hitters have a better chance than usual ? do we need t o consider some more grinding like players with immensely good short games some like Jason Day?
It would not surprise me if JT heads DJ come the off on Thursday he will be mega popular and given DJ’s recent form and late withdrawal last week he will have his doubters. JT hasn’t played fast and fiery course overly well in recent times so does value lie further down the board.
Rory seems easy to pass over at the top, however, it would be so Rory like to find his mojo the week it matters most to him each year. 20/1 on the exchanges perhaps 22/1 -23/1 come the off he might be the one that slips away. I’m just not convinced he is physically and mentally up to the challenge.
Of all players under 20/1 my rankings would be;
1.JT
2.DJ
3.Speith
4.Rham
5.BDC
6.Rory
The next group to looks at include Cantly, Xander, Big Tony , Colin , Reed , Hovland , Casey.
Patrick Cantly is the one who interest me most , Xander’s the one who interests me about as much Mark Roe’s commentary! He has to be one of the most overrated players in the game today how Patrick Reed is a bigger price than that mug is beyond me. Big T seems slightly off his a game but I wouldn’t be as dismissive of him as I usually am he plays fast and firm tracks well and has previous here we all remember the remarkable performance after dislocating his ankle in the par 3 competition. Augusta is without doubt a 2nd SHOT golf course more than any other on tour so the name Colin M will be on many people 👄. Not for me tho his putting is like a 10 handicapper at times and that puts me off on a difficult putting test, I also worry about his lack of length from the tee box. If this course does play fast and firm I always like Patrick Reed. look he is disliked by many and I totally understand why but the good thing for punters is his price is always bigger than it should be and this week is no exception. He’s one I like in the 20/1-40/1 price range.
The other , I can’t believe I’m saying it PAUL CASEY, he has form at tough golf courses has previous form at the Masters, and comes into the event in really solid form, the maturity in his game stands in him him in good stead at these majors. I feel that 2021 provides Paul his best chance of a lift in a major trophy. Victor Can’t win for me you have to chip well at Augusta when you naturally miss greens and he chips a bit like me and I haven’t played for 18 months.
I expect market moves for Cantley BIG T and Casey- the layer will be after Xander I’m sure + Reed and Victor.
Mid Range section , this hasn’t been a bad place to hunt over the years think Reed , Sergio , Bubba. This year is no different with lots of interesting players in this 40/1 - 60/1 range. A few that stand out to me Sun J Im and Jason Day. Slightly contradicting plays as one is an out and out ball striking machine the other has a short game envied by even the worlds best. I like both plays this week We have seen the return to form of ventrans like Lee Westwood and there is no reason why Jason Day who is healthier than ever , couldn’t surprise a few in an event he has come close to winning a few time. My worry is mentally has he got it , he’s bit of a thinker is Jason and I want a player who coming down the stretch has Killer instinct like Reed , Speith , JT etc. Sun Jea has less scares and he showed last year nothing fazes him. One player I feel will be well and truly overlooked and may cause a few ppl to laugh is Webb Simpson, but, let me tell you, if this plays fast and firm he will not be fazed. He has good major pedigree and has a feel similar to Patrick Reed some years back who people dismissed as to short of the tee etc. He’s one I’ll be playing in DK lineups as I’m sure loads will be against him and in the big 1 million pound game going against the grain has served me well and should do the same for you.
Despite being popular Westie won’t be for me neither the following , cam smith , Niemann ( wrong ball flight ) Hideki ( never ever ever for me ) Hatton ( game looks slightly away and major record poor )
Scottie Schefflier isn’t without a chance but to get you Break through win at this event would takes some skill and mental fortitude, his game certainly sets up well for it though. That’s brings me to 2 players who do interest me ,both who already carry the weight of GINGER money 💴.TOMMY FLEETWOOD and MATT FITZPATRICK.
Regular listens of the Gingerbets podcast will know I’m a huge FITZY fan and having got some money in the bank from him earlier this year when he placed for us at 90/1 I’m happy to reinvest in him again this week. Whatever the conditions he has the game and iron play , putting are his 2 strengths without a shadow of a doubt. He maybe the forgotten man. Tommy is also onboard , he’s a ball striking machine , deceptively long of the tee , hits a natural draw , has shown me enough he won’t get to nervous if he’s in the mix . Loved universally it would be some story if he was to get his first PGA tour win and a Green Jacket next week. I’ll be behind him for the first tee shot.
Bubba’s game isn’t all that bad , he won’t be the worst 100/1 shot I don’t expect he is 100/1 on the exchanges come the off more like 80/1 but I could be wrong.
Now we are into long shot territory, given winners in the range at majors are few and far between I won’t dwell on this range to much. I will look into these players more in side markets and three balls but players that will be in my many DK line ups are as follows
Harris English he won’t be 200/1 on the exchanges come the off more like 150/160 especially if tough conditions get reported because he will pop on many models same can be said for Jason Kokrak . Both could be good back to lays for free investments.
Victor Perez , Van Rooyen and Matt Kuchar also look huge on the exchanges.
All I’m dyslexic as they come so excuse all typos and grammar, I’m hope you get the value in other ways.
I’ll be back next week with the podcast and my Final 5.
Ginger.
